Cathay Pacific A330-300 Business Class HKG-BKK
After a nice overnight stay at the Marriott SkyCity, I headed back to Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport to catch the high speed downtown. The PYE 500 HKD certificate received on CX807 was burning a hole in my pocket. I was able to spend a few hours in downtown Hong Kong and brought back a nice shirt.
Then it was back to the airport to try and convince the First Class Pier Lounge gatekeeper to grant me access. Technically I could not enter even though I was on a First Class ticket. The Oneworld rule states the connection must be before 6AM the morning after your original departure.
The answer was no, I could not enter. So I asked if it would be okay to take a few pictures. I was granted 5 minutes. I can now say, Here is your 5 minute tour.
Imported from Ubud Indonesia?
This is the main seating off the dining room.
There was a small room off to the side of the bar, kind of a self service room.
The main dining room which was sizable.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to view the Day Suites and figured I pressed my luck enough at this point. Tick tock.
Back up the escalator to The Pier Business Class lounge.
This lounge is huge. Multiple rooms, various kinds of seating and eclectic food stations as well.
Even yoga for the weary traveler.
Along the side were plenty of seats that offered ground level views of the tarmac.
Showers are located in the back.
There were 3 or 4 dining areas with different types of seating available.
Noodle bar and self serve, even a cookie bar.
I enjoyed a cup of coffee and a cookie then headed over to my gate. Boarding commenced on this older A330.
This aircraft has the first generation Cirrus seats that are extremely popular with premium class flyers.
A large footwell that would offer plenty of room for sleeping. Downside is there was no place to store computer bag / purse.
Telltale sign of age.
On to lunch, or maybe this was a snack flight as it departed around 2PM.
Yes, Afternoon Tea. Sounds like a great idea.
I enjoyed this with a Hong Kong style milk tea, well I enjoyed the tea after I was finished with the meal.
Two scones, not really. One scone and one mini pie filled with some sort of crab mixture. The beef was a little odd and there was plenty of jam and clotted cream for a single scone. And how can you go wrong with two desserts?

Cabin: ✔︎These older A330’s are getting long in the tooth. Cabins, lavatories and seats are showing their age. However with Cathay continuing to take delivery of A350s, these A330 will either be fazed out or placed on shorter routes like this to Bangkok. Having a lie flat seat was great for this trip.
Cabin/Seats Rating: 5 out of 10 ✈
Food/Amenities: ✔︎The selection I made, finger sandwiches, was creative and very good. Highly recommend.
